No extension in deadline for selling BS-IV vehicles: Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to allow automobile dealers to sell BS-IV vehicles after March 31, 2020.
The top court dismissed the association's plea to grant them one month more time till April end to clear their inventory.
Automobile retailers had earlier said they might fail to liquidate Bharat Stage-IV vehicles’ inventory before the new emission standards take effect, on April 1, 2020.They had pleaded before the apex court to give them more time to clear such stock.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) in December filed an application in the Supreme seeking modification in its October 2018 order. No BS-IV vehicles will be sold or registered after March 31, 2020, the SC order read.
Several leading auto majors like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, M&M and Hyundai have already transitioned a major chuck of their fleet to BS-VI compliance.
