JAMMU:
Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (
LoC) in J&K’s Poonch district for the third consecutive day on Monday afternoon.
“Around 12.15pm, Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire using small arms and resorted to heavy mortar-shelling along the LoC in Poonch’s Shahpur sector. The
Indian Army retaliated effectively and there has been no injury on our side,” Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt
Col Devender Anand said.
Sources from Poonch said the cross-border fire exchange continued intermittently till late evening.
On Sunday afternoon, Pakistan breached the truce along the LoC in Poonch’s Shahpur and Qasba sectors to which Indian troops retaliated
befittingly. A day prior to that, Pakistani troops had opened unprovoked fire and shelled mortars in the district’s Mankot sector.
Pakistan made a similar breach of truce in Poonch’s Mankot and Mendhar sectors on March 3 as well.
