JAMMU: Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement more than 8,500 times in Jammu and Kashmir since January 1, 2018, according to a reply from the ministry of home affairs (MHA) in an answer to a query filed under the Right To Information Act, 2005.
Jammu-based activist Raman Sharma’s RTI query got a reply from MHA director security (J&K wing) dated August 18, 2020, which revealed that people living along the International Border and Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir have since 2018 witnessed at least nine ceasefire violations every day by Pakistan on an average.

Between January 1, 2018, and July 2020, a total of 8,571 ceasefire violations were committed by Pakistan in J&K. At least 119 Indians, including 63 civilians and 56 security personnel, lost their lives in this period while 308 civilians and 300 security personnel were injured.
Compared to 2010, the RTI reply said, the episodes of aggression by Pakistan increased by around 50 times in 2019 and by 60 times till July 2020. The reply said there were only 70 breaches of truce in 2010, 3,479 such cases in 2019 and 2,952 cases of ceasefire violations till July 2020.
From January 2010 till July 2020, Pakistan violated the peace pact at least 11,572 times and resorted to cross-border firing in J&K, killing 240 Indians — 122 civilians and 118 security personnel — and injuring 673 civilians and 594 security personnel.
In 2010, 70 instances of cross-border shelling by Pakistan were reported in which killed 2 civilians and five security personnel were killed. In comparison, Pakistan violated the ceasefire 3479 times in 2019 in which 18 civilians and 19 security personnel were killed.
