Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Poonch

Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Poonch
JAMMU: After a week’s lull, Pakistan violated ceasefire on Sunday, resorting to unprovoked firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Poonch district, a defence spokesman said.
“Around 8.40am, Pakistani troops breached the truce along the LoC in Poonch’s Degwar sector, initiating unprovoked firing of small arms and mortar shelling targeting forward Indian posts and border villages.
Indian Army retaliated befittingly,” Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said.
The fire exchange continued for some time but there was no report of any injury or damage to own side, Anand added.
The ceasefire violation comes after a week as the last one was reported on May 9, also in Poonch’s Degwar sector. Prior to that, Pakistan had breached the truce consecutively for four days — on May 7 in Poonch’s Shahpur, Kirni and Qasba sectors; on May 6 in Shahpur sector; on May 5 in Rajouri district’s Manjakote sector and Poonch’s Balakote sector; and on May 4 in Nowshera and Sunderbani sectors of Rajouri.
