Rajouri assistant public prosecutor caught with contraband, suspended
JAMMU: A prosecuting officer has been suspended after he was caught with eight grams of contraband substance in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month, an official order said.
Waseem Ahmad Qureshi, assistant public prosecutor in the court of judicial magistrate, Ukhral (Rajouri), was arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after he was found to be in possession of the contraband during checking in Rajouri town on May 4.
A case has been registered against him.
Pending inquiry into his conduct, the officer was deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from the date since when he has been in custody, according to an order issued on the subject.
Additional secretary (home) Khalid Majeed in his order said, “It has been informed that the accused officer was detained and remained in custody for more than 48 hours and still continues to be on judicial remand. Whereas on account of having remained in police custody for more than 48 hours, Mr Wasim Ahmed Qureshi is required be placed under suspension in terms of provision of Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules 1956.”
