Reds lynch supervisor at Bastar road project site

Reds lynch supervisor at Bastar road project site
RAIPUR: Maoists beat a ‘munshi’ to death at a road construction site in Kanker district, Bastar, late on Thursday night and threw his body on the road as a warning to villagers.
A leaflet dropped next to the body warned locals and contractors against supporting road construction projects in the area.
The victim Jagdish Mandal, 42, had supervised work for a small bridge and lived in a hut close to the site.
On Thursday night, a band of armed Maoists dragged him out of his hut while other villagers cowered in terror in their homes. The Maoists beat him mercilessly, ignoring his pleas. The Maoists torched his hut and motorcycle and left, shouting out threats to villagers.
SP Bhojram Patel said Mandal had started work for the construction firm without informing police. Considering the vulnerability of the region, it’s mandatory for contractors to get police approval before starting work.
