JAMMU: In a joint counterinsurgency operation, the security forces killed a terrorist in Kalakote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Thursday.
The Indian Army along with police and paramilitary personnel launched a cordon and search operation early on Thursday morning in Rajouri’s Panjah Mehari village. “The patrol established contact with a group of terrorists [estimated to be between three and four], who opened fire on security forces, leading to an encounter,” an official said.
One terrorist was killed in the ensuing gun battle, while the operation is still continuing.
“More details are awaited,” the official added.
The security forces also launched the cordon and search operations in Sahi Maidan, Topa, Thera and other villages of Poonch district’s Mendhar sector on Thursday morning.
The Army on June 1 had foiled an infiltration bid after killing three heavily armed terrorists in Kalal area of Rajouri district’s Nowshera sector. It had also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
