'
Tales of Hope Chasers' explores the implications of the Delhi High court judgment of IPC Section 377 through a tale.
Being gay in India isn't easy and this book highlights the many difficulties people of that community face. With six protagonists, we see a variety of ways they're discriminated against, misunderstood and mistreated. The book starts with a prolouge where Saroj, one of the protagonists is sexually assaulted and the plot is then split into 5 books where we hear different stories.
The horrors or simply the plain discrimination the
LGBT community in India faces are shared first hand through the protagonists. We see the difficulty of coming out or keeping a part of their life a secret, the pressure to not be true to themselves, to marry someone they don't want to, to go through treatment to 'çure' them and so on. While we might have heard of some of these things, it's often reported factually. This book shows the psychological toll these events have. It's an eye-opening book and should be read by every Indian.
