KOLKATA: Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab picked Bengal pacers Akash Deep and Sayan Ghosh respectively as their net bowlers for the upcoming Indian Premier League. Both the bowlers will travel with the sides to UAE where the IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 to November 10.
The teams are expected to leave India in the third week of August although the exact date is yet to be finalized.
Akash Deep played a pivotal role in making Bengal the runners-up in the Ranji Trophy last season in his debut year for the senior side.
The right-handed bowler from Sasaram village in Bihar, picked up 35 wickets from nine Ranji games for Bengal.
He is now excited to get to learn from some of the game's best. "I am very happy. I will get a chance to bowl to some great players of the world. I also look forward to learn a lot from Steve Smith the RR skipper and Andrew McDonald the coach," he stated.
"I also feel this exposure will help youngsters like us from Bengal mature. I hope to use those in the next season in the domestic T20 meet," he felt.
Although it will be a maiden experience for Akash Deep to share the dressing room with Indian and international level players, Ghosh had such previous experience of IPL when he was a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders (2017) and Delhi Daredevils (2018) sides. Although he did not get an opportunity to play a match, he had a feel of the IPL pulse.

Ghosh sounded excited at the prospect of bowling to the likes of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle at KXIP nets. "It's a great opportunity for me. And the experience I will gain will help Bengal in future. It is a welcome break from being in lockdown in our houses. I am happy that I can now bowl and play cricket," he stated.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) secretary and former Bengal player Snehashis Ganguly welcomed the move. "These players are very talented and have a lot of potential. Their stay with the franchises will further help them hone their skills," he said.
Bengal's other youngsters Ishan Porel and Shahbaz Ahmed will feature for Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore sides respectively. Apart from them Wriddhiman Saha, Mohammed Shami and Shreevats Goswami will also feature in this IPL from Bengal.
