KXIP vs RCB: Blog | Scorecard
Player of the Match - KL Rahul: "As a leader it's important to lead from the front. It's a complete team performance, really happy. I told Maxi that I am not feeling completely in control of my batting, he said you must be joking, you are hitting really well. During the toss is the only time I feel like a captain and otherwise I balance being a player and the captain.
The analyst, coach and the management will be happy. I watched the U-19 World Cup. He has a lot of fight in him. He's always ready when I throw the ball. He wants to get into the contest."
RCB skipper Virat Kohli: "Yeah it didn't. I think we were good in the middle phase with the ball, they got off to a decent start and we pulled things back nicely. I have to stand in front and take the brunt of it, not the best day in the office, couple of important chances of KL when he was set and that cost us 35-40 runs at a later stage. Maybe if we restricted them to 180 we wouldn't have under pressure from ball one to chase. We know exactly where we went wrong and I have to put my hand up and say a couple of important chances went down. There are days when these kinds of things happen on the cricket field, they happen and we have to accept them. We have had a good game, we have had a bad game and now it is time to move on. Learn from the mistakes we make. We did pretty well closing in on the second time out. Those are the moments, we pulled things back nicely so we understand how to do that as a team. He has batted at the top of the order for Western Australia and done well in the BBL as well, early days in the tournament so we thought we will maximise his ability and see how we go from thereon. We thought we would give ourselves a bit of depth in the middle overs."

RCB spinner Yuzvendra Chahal:"We thought we'd get a target of 160-170, but the wicket is good for batting so I think we can chase the total. I've been varying my pace, watching the batsman's feet, and working on the googlies, particularly the quicker and the slower googlies. I've worked quite hard in the 21 days we've had here. The dew has already set in and I think they will struggle to grip it. We can chase this down."

Playing XIs:
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch, Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Shivam Dube, Josh Philippe (w), Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, Dale Steyn, Yuzvendra Chahal
Kings XI Punjab: KL Rahul (w/c), Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, Sarfaraz Khan, James Neesham, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin, Sheldon Cottrell, Ravi Bishnoi
RCB's Dale Steyn:"The body is feeling good. It’s a plus that you don’t have to get on the plane the next day. Nice to get the first one (game) out of the way. Haven’t played competitive cricket for a while now. Nobody has. Looking to get better as the tournament progresses. I think the nice thing about playing how long as I have is that I know how I can operate. I can work on slower balls and yorkers. Anytime you’re playing on a new surface, there will be something different. The batters will want to take some time to get set. I must say that the first game I saw the guys bowl (in Dubai), I was pretty excited."
What captains had said after the toss:
KL Rahul:"There were a lot of positives and it was the first game. Mayank's batting and our team's fight was heartening. Jordan and Gowtham aren't playing, Murugan Ashwin and Neesham come in. Chris Gayle will come in at the right time, don't worry about it. It was tough sitting at home and so we are grateful to get this opportunity to play. The guys are enjoying themselves despite the rustiness in the first game."
Virat Kohli:"It's a fresh wicket. There's a bit of dew in the second half and when the ball gets wet it's hard to execute. That's been a big factor. We have done really well defending a total less than 170 and seeing the bowlers execute their plans so well. We are unchanged for today's game."
TOSS | Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli wins toss, opts to bowl against Kings XI Punjab

Pitch Report:
Kevin Pietersen reckoned that it would be prudent to chase in Dubai tonight, given the much longer boundaries than Sharjah, given the tackiness/dryness of the pitch first up, and which will possibly flatten out later in the night with all the moisture and dew for the team batting second.
* Toss at 7 pm IST and the match will start at 7:30 pm IST.
