NEW DELHI: Kevin Pieterson's
Twitter account was locked on Saturday after the former England batsman jokingly threatened to slap broadcaster
Piers Morgan on the social media platform.
Pietersen had a spat with Morgan over whether pubs in England should have reopened amid the
COVID-19 pandemic and it was during this argument that the now retired batsman, in one of his tweets said that he would hit Morgan.
“@piersmorgan I slap you when I see you! That won’t be nonsense!” wrote Pietersen in the now deleted tweet.
Though KP's tweet appears to have been made in jest, Twitter took action after the tweet and locked Pietersen's account.
“You may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone … This includes wishing or hoping that someone experiences physical harm,” Twitter said in their explanation.
Ridiculing the suspension, Morgan in another tweet came to Pietersen's defence saying KP's tweet was an obvious joke and that he didn't feel harassed in any way. He also requested Twitter UK to reinstate Pietersen's account.
