KOLKATA: The
Association of Indian Football Coaches (
AIFC) has written to the league committee of the
All India Football Federation, proposing that it be made mandatory for all
I-League and I-League second division clubs to have Indian head coaches who at least possess AFC A license degree.
At the same time, the AIFC — which is premier association of coaches in India and recognized by the All India
Football Federation — recommends that the Indian Super League should continue with Indian assistant coaches with A license degree in the teams.
"We have also marked the letter to
AIFF general secretary Kushal Das, I-League CEO Sunando Dhar, the technical committee of the AIFF and Football Sports Development Limited. If the Indian coaches are not given the opportunity, then people will not take up coaching in the future. Hopefully, the AIFF will consider our proposal," said Sanjoy Sen, one of the directors of AIFC.
It now remains to be seen whether the All India Football Federation deliberates over the manner. Also, selecting a coach is a club's prerogative and thus it will be important for the clubs to agree for this proposal to be implemented.
