NEW DELHI: When the coronavirus
pandemic halted all the sporting activities around the world and the lockdown forced people to stay in their homes, two
Italian girls became an instant hit on social media after their video of playing
tennis on their individual rooftops and maintaining perfectly hit rallies went viral.
The two girls, 13-year-old Vittoria and 11-year-old Carola, were seen playing tennis from their respective rooftops against each other in the viral video in April this year.
At that time, the girls did not expect much when they played rooftop tennis in Finale Ligura (Italy). But after becoming internet sensations, they got an unexpected surprise on 10 July -- a visit from none other than 20-time Grand Slam champion
Roger Federer, who both girls idolise, facilitated by a Pasta company.
The 38-year old Swiss maestro was touched by the girls' perseverance during the Covid-19 lockdown, and called the meeting 'a very special moment' in his career.
"Personally for me, that was a very special moment in my career as a tennis player. To surprise a fan, or children, like I was able to with Carola and Vittoria today," Federer said.
After the meeting, Federer then played a game of tennis with the girls across the same rooftops.
"It was great. I have played in many cool places around the world. But this is definitely up there for me as a special experience. We showed that we can play anywhere and have fun with it. I had the best time, honestly," Federer added.
The two young girls couldn't believe that Federer was actually with them and went on a selfie taking spree, while telling the world that the man with them was actually Roger Federer himself.
At the end of the video, Federer also revealed that he had another surprise for the girls. Federer is also sending them to the
Rafael Nadal tennis Academy for a summer camp.
