200 Trinamool workers in North 24 Parganas cross over to BJP

Kolkata, Feb 19 (IANS): Over 200 Trinamool Congress workers crossed over to the BJP in Habra of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal on Tuesday in support of the CAA and alleging lack of democracy in West Bengal's ruling party.

The workers switched allegiance to the BJP during a organisational meeting held by the saffron outfit at Habra, represented in the assembly by state Food and Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick.

State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh handed over the party flag to the new joinees.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP's district President Shankar Chakraborty said mostly refugees stay in Habra and Ashoknagar.

"They know the yeomen service that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done to them by passing the new Citizenship (Amendment) Act. The Trinamool is trying to make fools out of the people. But their attempts have not succeeded. So, in the refugee dominated regions, people are coming to our side," he said.
