The Maharashtra Police has registered 1. 34 lakh cases from March 22 to June 22 under IPC section 188 for violation of lockdown orders and 27,511 people were arrested, said State Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh.

Deshmukh in a media statement issued today said that during the period (March 22 to June 22) a fine of ₹8. 64 crore has also been imposed on citizens for various violations of law. The police have also issued 5.04 lakh passes for essential services. There were also 279 incidents of assault on policemen for which 858 persons have been arrested and further action has been initiated,

The police emergency number 100 is functional in all the districts of the State and during the lockdown, 1.04 lakh calls were received on this number, all of which were duly noted and logged. Across the State, the police also tracked down 740 people with a quarantine stamp and sent them to segregation facilities, he said.

In the ongoing efforts to control the coronavirus spread, 48 policemen died due to the infection out of which 33 are from the Mumbai region. Control rooms have been set up all over the State to take immediate action if a policeman develops any symptoms related to corona. Currently, 1,100 policemen are infected by coronavirus and are undergoing treatment, the statement said.
